The underwriting process for life insurance products can be complicated. Our life wholesalers and life case managers to work closely with you and/or your assistant throughout the process. All insurance applications received are reviewed first by your life wholesaler as an initial field underwriting review to check for any indications that your client’s applications may not be approved as applied for, to ensure the proper illustration, if applicable, is included and to get to know the details of your client’s individual needs. Your life case manager will work with you directly as your client’s application progresses through underwriting. You can address all questions and forward all requirements to your case manager who will handle all of the communication with the carrier on your behalf.
Our life case managers track all APS requests made by the carriers. In some instances, we will order the APS records directly from the doctor or hospital at DMI’s expense. This service has proven to be invaluable in expediting the underwriting process.
Rules of the Road
There are some important rules that help ensure your life insurance cases are underwritten efficiently.
- Review the application to make sure all questions are answered clearly including all doctors' contact information
- Be sure to have the correct individual sign (owner/insured/trustee)
- Check underwriting guidelines with your DMI life wholesaler
- Ensure all other required forms are included (e.g. HIPAA, Financial Forms)
- Schedule your client's exam (There is a list of preferred vendors here)
- Set your clients expectations regarding the underwriting process and time requirements
